Do you provide drivers for machines you have sold?
Yes we do. If you log into our FTP site at ftp://server.mendmycomputer.com
you will find drivers by device and by system name.
Is remote support chargable?
Remote support is chargable either via a maintenance support
contract or half an hour sessions. Please call 01562
829 875 for more information.
What hours do you provide support?
Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Excluding public holidays.
Small print?
Our maintenance contracts DON'T do small print. Everything
is plain english and only several lines. We don't believe in making terms
to get out of every service call you require.
What software do you support?
We will try and assist in any computer related matters.
Do you support products that weren't purchased from you?
Yes, we support products purchased from other businesses
and manufacturers, although warranties are not transferable.
What is on-site maintenance?
A technician will diagnose the problem, order/install any
parts and check the system is working properly, all at your location.
Can Mend My Computer come out to my home or business to
fix my computer?
Yes, we offer both a workshop and an on-site service.
Will I be charged if you cannot resolve the problem?
Problems that cannot be resolved onsite are infrequent,
but yes, you will be charged in the event that the problem cannot be fixed
onsite. We will advise you of your best course of action.
I think I might have a virus, what should I do?
To check, you can try using one of the free anti-virus programs
or services on our site to find and remove the virus, although we do recommend
having it looked at by one of our qualified technicians.
What are security patches?
When operating software and systems are released there are
sometimes flaws in the security that may enable hackers to "take
over" your computer. As these exploits are found, security patches
are released to address them.
Am I safe from security problems if I have anti-virus software?
Anti-virus software does not protect your computer from
operating system and software security flaws. It is essential for updates
to be done regularly.
We rely on our computer for our business. Can you fix outside
business hours?
Yes, we can fix computers outside normal business hours,
if a prior appointment is made.
My computer has shut off and there is a burning smell -
what is wrong?
This usually means a component in your computer is burning
up or melting, probably either your motherboard or power supply. You will
need to take it to a qualified technician to diagnose the exact cause
and have the problem rectified.
My computer is telling me to insert a boot disk?
If this happens suddenly, and your computer was working
before, you could have a failing hard drive and should take it to a qualified
technician immediately to attempt to recover your data.
I am getting a lot of pop-ups, how can I fix them?
Nearly all computers connected to the internet will be affected
by spyware. To check and remove spyware that has infected your computer
see our free programs listed, although, we do recommend you take it to
one of our qualified technicians.
I have lost the power on my computer and am unable to turn
it back on, what do I do?
Most new computers have a power safety measure built in
that will not allow you to turn your computer on immediately after a power
interruption. This is usually resolved by unplugging the computer at the
wall for 20-30 seconds and trying again. If your computer still won't
turn on, the power supply will have to be replaced by a qualified technician.
Is there a difference between a notebook computer and a
laptop?
No, the two are the same thing; both names were invented
by marketing departments to aid selling their products.
How long will it take to repair my computer?
Most computer repairs can be resolved within 2 hours, although
this does depend on the nature of the problem so cannot be guaranteed.
However, we will work as quickly as possible to fix your computer.
I have cable or DSL high speed internet, but can't access
the internet or check my email why is this?
This can sometimes occur if you have lost connection to
your internet service provider (ISP) due to power interruption. Try resetting
the connection by turning off your computer and unplugging your cable
or DSL modem and router (if you have one.) Wait a few seconds, then plug
your router back in and wait for the boot up process to complete, then
turn your computer back on and plug modem back in. When the boot up process
has completed, try your internet again. If connection is unsuccessful,
you will need to contact your ISP or we can arrange an onsite visit to
assit you.
What are the advantages of having a hardware contract?
Labour is covered by the fixed annual cost of the contract.
You will get prioity call out to your machine either 4 hour, next business
day, or 48 workshop reapir depending on the contract.
